Why are temperament tests important?

Temperament tests are an essential part of the Puget Hound daycare process! Simply put, they allow us to assess your dog’s personality, play style, and level of anxiety to ensure that each pup will enjoy their time in group play. 

What if my dog gets anxious?

We’ll work at your dog’s pace to ensure they’re comfortable. Whether that means a little longer in one-on-one time, a slower introduction of other dogs, or even modifying their daycare plan altogether, we want your dog to enjoy their time at Puget Hound with no discomfort or anxiety! 

What happens if my dog doesn’t enjoy group play? 

No worries! We offer solo daycare reservations, meaning they get individual play time with a daycare attendant. They go through the same rest and play cycles as dogs in group daycare, allowing them to decompress before their next round of focused playtime. 

So, how does a temperament test work?

Once we’ve got your dog’s updated vaccination record and a clean report from their fecal test, it’s time for the fun part: scheduling their temperament test! We’ll chat in the office for a few minutes while your dog gets used to the smells and the presence of our team. 

Next, our team will take it from here – and off to the play yard we go! We’ll have an attendant hang out in the play yard one-on-one with your dog, making sure they feel safe and comfortable as they check out the new sights, sounds and smells. 

Once they feel comfortable, we slowly introduce a few other dogs one by one! We start with a dog who’s a similar age and temperament. No matter your dog’s energy level, we’ll match it! 

We’ll then add that smaller group to a full-size pack with the dogs they’ve already met, so they aren’t stampeded by a bunch of brand-new dogs. They’ll be able to get comfortable in a larger group at their own pace!

From there, your dog is incorporated into the rest of our day! We’ll ensure they’re comfortable during rest times and socializing well during playtime. 

After about 4 hours of daycare time, it’s time to pick up your pup! You’ll chat with an attendant about how your dog did in daycare – and from there, you’re officially part of the Puget Pack. You’re free to make your next reservation for daycare!
